“Just pick a major that matches your interests,” my friend told me freshman year after declaring her own major. Well, that’s kind of hard considering...
When I was in elementary school, I wanted to be a fashion designer. I spent all my time after school sketching models wearing different outfits in a notebook, coming up with ideas for my next collection to be debuted at New York Fashion Week.
When I was in middle school, I wanted to be a writer. I imagined a life that consisted of independently traveling to different countries to gain inspiration for a novel that would be a New York Times Best Seller.
When I was in high school, I wanted to be a nurse. I joined charity clubs and became deeply involved in running fundraisers for different nonprofits, and took all the honors and AP science courses offered at school.
When I got to college, within one semester I quickly realized that I did not want to be a nurse.
I felt lost and had no idea what I wanted to be when I graduated, but then it dawned on me: People do not have to have one passion. I have countless interests, which is why the Media major is perfect for me. Whether I want to be a script coordinator, web designer, creative director, or digital marketing associate in the future, the opportunities are endless and I never have to pigeonhole myself. I am free to just be me.
