Responsive Images

Learning more about responsive images and what it takes to make photos look well on browsers
and mobile devices made me understand why some websites don’t have a mobile counterpart.
For example, Dina Kelberman’s website works well on my Mac (even though it is busy with a
lot of small words) but when I tried looking at it on my phone it said the site was under
construction. A lot of basic websites have headers and then content underneath, but Dina’s has
a sidebar with a scrollbar, and two large embed videos on the homepage. Working that format
onto a phone’s screen to make it easy-to-read and visually appealing, would be complicated
because of the device’s width. Additionally, the sidebar is interactive; when you put your mouse
over it the numbers and words move side-to-side. I know large images and videos can waste a
phone’s bandwidth, but I wonder if having something like the scrollbar Dina has would also
waste bandwidth?
